EVTOLs look set to be a fundamental feature of the future of flight. These aircraft, also known as electric or hybrid-electric vertical take-off and landing vehicles, promise to transform how we move within and between cities. Hundreds of companies worldwide are actively developing air taxi projects, reflecting rapid industry growth. They can: offer unprecedented convenience with flights bypassing traffic; improve accessibility to remote areas; advance cargo transportation; and reduce emissions.
Alistair Blundy will discuss the Advanced Air Mobility industry, considering its progress on the journey from build to testing and eventually roll-out. He will consider battery issues, hydrogen capabilities and motors. Delegates will also learn about the key manufacturers, customers, investors and stakeholders influencing current and future plans.
Importantly, attendees will gain an understanding of the measures needed to ensure the success of Advanced Air Mobility. One of the key ingredients will inevitably be regulation, overseen by the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) and Department for Transport, and supported by the Law Commission of England and Wales. Jam Hartley will provide the CAA’s view on developments and discuss the regulatory landscape.
Our Speakers:
Alistair Blundy is the Chief Executive Officer of Skyrisks, the pioneer of aircraft insurance and risk management solutions for the fast-growing Advanced Air Mobility (AAM) sector. Along with a team of insurance and data science veterans, Alistair co-founded Skyrisks in 2023 to be the global leader in insurance for revolutionary aircraft, such as the new breed of eVTOLs, and a broad array of innovative technologies across both piloted and autonomous flight. Alistair leads with an underwriting-first approach at Skyrisks, driven by a deep awareness of the complex engineering and regulatory challenges faced by the industry. His focus is on superior product expertise and developing granular pricing models built on market-leading data aggregation and analysis.
Jeremy (Jam) Hartley is the Policy Specialist-Vertiports for the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA), the United Kingdoms (UK) aviation regulator. His current position was developed as part of the UKs Future Flight Programme to ensure that regulations for this new type of aerodrome infrastructure allow for safe and efficient operations and are ready for the introduction of these novel eVTOL aircraft.
After fifteen years in aviation related roles, and seven years in healthcare, Jam took to obtaining his MSc in Air Transport Operations and Business Management, equipping himself to formulate ideas and make educated decisions to facilitate the world of aviation into the future. During his studies, he focused his efforts on Advanced Air Mobility (AAM), producing a thesis on utilizing eVTOL aircraft to support The NHS National Organ Retrieval Service surgical teams from time, economic and environmental aspects. Jam believes that in the current global climate, with pressures on sustaining an environmentally stable planet, changes are required to develop new and maintain existing aviation business that will thrive to serve generations to come in an equitable manner.
To compliment his role, Jam is involved with working groups within the CAA and other external agencies. He is the UK member for the ICAO working group designated to developing international vertiport standards and works with EUROCAE on developing guidance pertaining to managing lithium-Ion battery fires relating to eVTOL aircraft. These experiences allow for a broad spectrum of knowledge and understanding of this innovative industry, which he is employing to ensure a safe and future proof AAM environment.
