The UK data protection landscape is evolving rapidly, with new legislation, case law, enforcement and guidance all playing an important part. A successful data protection framework must provide for the practical application of fundamental data protection principles to the specific industry in which an organisation operates.

With a vast data inventory and complex distribution arrangements, the insurance industry has unique opportunities and challenges.

This market briefing has been designed in response to a call from IUA members for training which focusses on the practical application of data protection obligations to the insurance sector. It will be of particular relevance to those members with compliance colleagues who have joined from other industries.

Our Speakers:
Jade Kowalski is a Partner and Co-Lead of DAC Beachcroft's Data, Privacy & Cyber practice. She is a well known adviser to the insurance sector. As well as working with a range of (re)insurers, brokers and MGAs, she also supports industry associations to consider market level issues. In particular, Jade was instrumental in the inclusion of the "insurance" condition for processing special categories of personal data within the Data Protection Act 2018. Jade's practical approach to problem solving and advising is highly regarded by clients. She is noted in Chambers as being "responsive, technically excellent, commercially astute and absolutely lovely".

Charlotte Halford is a Partner and has advised and assisted insurance sector clients on a range of data protection matters, including providing strategic guidance on compliance with UK data protection law, drafting and advising on privacy and cookies policies, dealing with subject access requests, advising on the data protection elements of various commercial contracts and managing international data protection projects.
