EU/UK 1996 EU Joint Action 96/668/CFSP & Council Regulation (EC) No 2271/96 contains protection against effects of extraterritorial application of sanctions imposed by other countries (certain U.S. sanctions against Cuba, Iran & Libya). EU has issued an amendment to the regulation to include the US reimposition of sanctions against Iran due to United States withdrawing from the JCPOA. EC amended the blocking regulation to include the US measures agaist Iran effective from 7th August 2018 Delegated Regulation (EU) 2018/1100 amending Council Regulation (EC) No 2271/96, obliging the EU Member States to uphold EU regulation. 1st Feb 2019 The Extraterritorial US Legislation (Sanctions against Cuba, Iran and Libya) (Protection of Trading Interests) (Amendment) Order 2018 came into force ensuring that UK criminal offences extend to conduct by UK nationals and entities within the scope of the amended Blocking Statute.
