After a period general practice, David began his legal career in shipping in 1970, at the UK Chamber of Shipping. He then moved to maritime law firm Hill Taylor Dickinson in 1972, where he became a managing partner in 1984. In 1990 he joined international law firm Clifford Chance where he was closely involved in the development of the firm’s shipping and insurance practice at Lloyd’s. He then joined the Institute of London Underwriters (ILU) in 1997 as advisor on inter-governmental and international affairs and was subsequently appointed to his current role of Special Advisor at the IUA following the merger of the ILU and LIRMA in 1999.
